Secondary Education
T.I.S.S. has been very fortunate to receive the support of numerous community partners. Procter & Gamble, Black & Decker and the Faculty of Education at Queen's University are full partners with T.I.S.S. In addition, T.I.S.S. has established numerous additional links within the City of Brockville; for example, the construction of the Con Darling statue (in co-operation with the Lions Club and the Brockville Police Association), the electrical vehicle project "The Brock Electric", (in co-operation with the Brockville Public Utilities Commission) and the new VIA Station mural (in co-operation with VIA Canada). These links have provided our students with tremendous opportunity and the community with lasting memorials. Our students benefit from strong community support with more than $28,000 donated annually to scholarship funds. T.I.S.S. is proud to have such strong affiliation with the City of Brockville. Brockville Collegiate Institute & Vocational School Brockville Collegiate houses seven hundred students and provides a diverse program designed to meet the needs and aspirations of all students. Excellence in Academics, Athletics and Arts is expected and attained within our friendly, caring environment. During the past three years, one third of our students have earned Ontario Scholarships upon graduation.
The Arts are a major focus at Brockville Collegiate and continues to maintain a long tradition of excellence in our community. Our French Immersion program involves approximately 125 students in grades 9-OAC and features a two week exchange program our with a school in Provence, France. Business, mathematics, computers, science, liberal arts and communication programs have produced many graduates who have gone on to pursue careers in medicine, engineering, law, computer technology, and business. B.C.I.'s athletic program enjoys high levels of success locally and provincially due to the commitment of our coaches and athletes. Brockville Collegiate's link with the community are strong and enhance the school culture. A number of partnerships provide opportunities for our students to develop work and good citizenship skills. Many of these partnerships are linked to the co-operative education program; each year 75 students are placed with employers in the community. Formal partnerships have been established with the Brockville General Hospital, 3M Canada, and the Faculty of Education at Queen's University in Kingston. Another key school link is the School Community advisory Council which provides support and input on an array of issues that help the school grow in positive and constructive ways. Our students benefit from community participation and support in our band booster club, football alumni group, and B.C.I. alumni. These groups raise considerable amounts of money which contributes to the football program, the purchase of musical instrument, auditorium renovations and more than $20,000 annually in scholarships. The school facilities are utilized every week night and many weekends and appreciated by many community groups. The auditorium and gymnasium are centres for people of all ages and interests. Community groups benefit from expertise, enthusiasm and service from the students inthe Key Club, the Leadership Development Program and the Sound and Lighting Crew. The staff wishes all students at B.C.I. success and encourages them to enrich their lives by taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available. St. Mary Catholic High School St. Mary athletics boasts winning the senior girls basketball team 1998 OFSAA "A" Ontario championship, and a Canadian rowing championship. Intramural and competitive sports, including hockey are available for students of all abilities. There are numerous active clubs, bands, choirs, as well as an extremely successful drama program, which combines with student musicians and tech crews for an annual "insight & sound" production.
Our contacts with many Brockville area agencies and businesses for job shadowing, mentoring and cooperative education, as well as our formal partnerships with DuPont Canada Inc. and Brockville Cable TV & FM provide our students many opportunities for "real world" experiences. Our students each maintain a personal career path portfolio to help chart academic progress and formulate a post-secondary school plan for further education and employment. |
